notes on flow in non-flow activities

2021-02-17

A state of flow is characterized by becoming so engrossed in the activity that it becomes easy to stay doing the activity. There's the idea that the ideal way to maintain the flow state would be to have the right level of challenge and interest for your current skill level. I'd like to imagine that when it comes to mundane autopilot type activities, finding flow might be as simple as increasing the difficulty slightly. Accordingly, for activities that have some mental hurdle to approach, lowering the bar slightly could do the trick.
